ANITRA NELSONcontact: anitra.nelson@rmit.edu.au Project Involvement Suburban Communities Dr Anitra Nelson is a Research Fellow at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and is currently working with Mark Burry and others on the ACID Connected Communities Project. In 2005, Dr Nelson is continuing research on community-based sustainability in rural and urban areas. She currently is editing a book on sustainable housing and urban planning. In 2004 Anitra investigated the application of geo-spatial visualisation tools to enhance community participation in urban land-use and planning in the Community Spatial Scenario Simulations project. Funded by the Department of Sustainability and Environment, she organised community based workshops exploring solutions to water bore issues and developed content for, and designed the Victorian Groundwater site. Dr Nelson came to RMIT University in 1998 to investigate the clash between ecological and monetary values in East Gippsland forests. Subsequently, she was funded by the Department of Sustainability and the Environment to facilitate community consultations for the Wombat Community Forest Management Pilot Project in 2002. In that year she also had first-hand experience living in the Environmental Living Zone in the Bend of Islands, Nillumbik Shire, in box ironbark woodlands. During 2004 she was a Board member of the Global Caucus on Community-based Forest Management. Dr Nelson's PhD was completed at La Trobe University in 1996 and resulted in a book entitled Marx's concept of money: the god of commodities, Published by Routledge in London in 1999 as one of their Studies in the History of Economics series.
