It will display ‘master architects’ (A1), as well as ‘urban design’ (A3), ‘community culture’ (A4), ‘interior design’ (A5), ‘investigations about public space’ (A6) ‘new materials’ (A7) and plans of an ‘architectural theme park’ (A8). The exhibition ‘Architecture/Non Architecture’ (A2) will show work by young practices and outstanding research institutes with, perhaps, more speculation on the future than might be present in the other pavilions. This part of the Beijing Biennale has been established to give the visitors a chance to get a better understanding about emerging trends and styles in contemporary architecture. As defined by its title, Architecture/Non Architecture not only explores areas which are not traditionally associated with architecture exhibitions, it also tries to investigate developments outside common practice which influence the ‘avant-garde’. In order to pinpoint various developments across the globe, the organisation of A2 has promoted the idea of HOT SPOT cities and BRAIN CELLS. Leading personalities from education and practice in architecture have been invited to curate this part of the exhibition: Curatorial Statement Our theme of CONVERGENT DESIGN was chosen as it integrates 3 principle topics: • surface, ornament & decoration • form & structure • spatial sound For the Melbourne Hotspots exhibition we have selected practices who take risks through being transdisciplinary: it is about an attitude towards design that makes their work special and demonstrates a distinctive ‘Melbourne’ spirit. Their work bridges the sometimes disparate concerns in traditional curricula of art, architecture, structure, form, mathematics, sound, music, ornament and surface. The exhibition will include two spatial sound pieces, and a combination of projected images and fixed posters / panels. For more information + detail: http://www.abbeijing.com/xm2_1.htm |
