Using web design and audio software to create a virtual CBD living space, the program lets you hear real sounds of Melbourne, and learn ways to reduce noise entering into your home. CitySounds2 has been designed to assist residents and industry by providing information on acoustic design in an accessible, interactive format. CitySounds2 is the first interactive Acoustic Design Resource to be developed in Australia. For architects and developers, CitySounds2 provides technical design and construction information to help reduce sound levels in new apartments and increase investment value. CitySounds2 was developed through a partnership between the City of Melbourne and RMIT University’s Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory (SIAL). Party-goers do not just want to let loose on the dance floor, they want their nightclubs to include quiet spaces for romance and talking, according to a survey of noise in Melbourne. The beep of reversing vehicles, shop spruikers on microphones and rattling air-conditioners are among the sounds that irritate people most, the CitySounds Community Survey found.
