SIAL has been awarded an ARC Linkage grant Delivering Digital Architecture in Australia. This research project is for a three year period commencing 1 March 2006. Prof. Mark Burry is the Chief Investigator. Prof. Mike Xie is an Investigator. The Industry Partner is Arup Sydney The Delivering Digital Architecture in Australia project studies: - architect/engineer collaboration using structural models, with a fresh look at analogue methods, including variations on rapid prototyping, and then comparison with digital models - the development of digital design tools and linkages (analysis/optimisation/representation) for structures and façades - lessons from parallel industries PhD candidate There is one full-time PhD scholarship available to participate in this research, with a preferred location of Sydney. The candidate will be enrolled within the School of Architecture and Design which operates at the leading edge of design education nationally and internationally with over one hundred and fifty candidates enrolled in Master and PhD by research. The highlight of the research year are the Graduate Research Conferences held every autumn and spring where postgraduate students present their work to a panel of invited national and international critics, and informally discuss aspects of their research with colleagues and visitors.
