This course situated the discourse of design in the antipodes and through the application of analogue and digital technologies made a trans-disciplinary study of space and architecture as it effects social life through temporal changes.

"Strange to say, technology, although of course the product of man, tends to develop by its own laws and principles, and they are very different from those of human nature or of living nature in general.  Nature always, so to speak, knows where and when to stop.  Greater even than the natural history of growth is the mystery of the natural cessation of growth". E. F Schumacher, Small is Beautiful, pp. 120

"So there was a deep ironic resonance in the way the British, having brought the Pacific at last into the realm of European consciousness, having explored and mapped it, promptly demonized  Australia once more by chaining their criminals on its innocent dry coast. It was to become the continent of Sin." Robert Hughes, The Fatal Shore: The epic of Australia's founding, Vintage, 1988
