1st March 2012: Introduction to Flexible 3D Modelling for Design and Prototyping

Week 1:


Thursday 1st March | Introduction: Jane Burry  and Michael Wilson| lab: introduction to Course structure and expectations, DIGITAL PROJECT software, class wiki and introductory tutorial 1 |

Week 2:

Thursday 8th March: |Lecture: Michael Wilson: work on the Sagrada Família church|Students to give two minute presentation of an idea for  a flexible model lab: Extensible model.  Form pairs. Work on introductory tutorial 2.

Week 3:


Thursday 15th March: Lecture: Nick Williams will talk about work in architecture practice and working for the consultancy DesigntoProduction |  lab: work on introductory exercise 3,
Start to prepare models for scanning and printing in week 3/4.

 IMPORTANT:

Date Monday 19th March time 9.30am | Introduction to the SIAL modelling lab - 3D prototyping, laser cutter, laser scanning etc. with Brad Marmion (compulsory) | modelling lab 97.3.3 (opposite side of Victoria Street) secure door to SIAL so please arrive on time.


Thursday 22nd March | Lecture: Alex Peña de Leon, work at Gehry Technologies and  looking at flexible modelling across different industries |Prepare stl models for physical prototyping or physical models for scanning | Introductory exercise 4 and introduce Module 2: Rapid Prototyping. Groups assigned.

Week 5:


Thursday 29th March |  Lecture: Stanislav Roudavski | Work on Rapid Prototyping project in pairs

MID SEMESTER BREAK 5th April - 11th April


Week 6:


Thursday 12th April | lecture TBA | lab: continue to work in pairs to progress your design through a cycle of physical and digital modelling

Thursday 19th April
| Interim review: Each pair will present all their collective models and their design process from Introduction and Rapid Prototyping. Hand out Module 3: Documentation.

Week 8:


Thursday 26th April
| Lecture: Julian Canterbury, March Studio and formally Gehry Technologies | Each group: Give a 2-minute group presentation (max 3 slides) to show how you will structure your documentation and what detail you will include in the design description.

Final interim review - 5 minute presentation of the work in progress - discussion of our to complete and present the work. Tutorials. Continue to work in pairs/groups on  your major flexible modeling project.

Tutorials. Continue to work in pairs/groups on  your major flexible modeling project.

Week 13:


Thursday 31st May | Final Review Presentation

All the outcomes from the semester will be presented and submitted
collectively and individually.

Each pair/group to make a 15-20 minute presentation supported by physical models and projected digital material.

Bring all your submission material organised in a folder with the partnership name.
