INSULAR* Upper Pool Design Studio | Studio Director: Greg More Associated Elective: +ATMOSPHERE Links to related projects : Memory Games | SNTKscapes | Future Sound | City Sounds Key Readings Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities Richard Sennett, Flesh and Stone Course Description The Insular studio examines the relationship between space and narrative. It explores the concepts of open and closed spaces within contemporary design scenarios, through the cinematic, atmospheric, and environmental factors (light, sound) of spatial design. Calvino’s novel Invisible Cities and the City of Venice are initial sites for Insular, where participants will address the design issues of access, control, and segregation within space. In this studio participants will be encouraged to design within 3D realtime engines to realise a series of process based projects. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to work with members from RMIT’s Animation and Interactive Media (AIM) and Communication Design. Important Note: Participants of INSULAR should also take the ATMOSPHERE elective, as this will be the Tech component for this studio. Please mark on the elective ballot for ATMOSPHERE that you are doing the INSULAR studio. Times: Wednesdays 6:30 - 9:30 at SIAL, Level 2, Building 9. Also participants should keep Wednesdays free for participation with AIM and Communication Design Students. |
