This project is relevant to the Non Standard Architectures Exhibition held in the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris 2004. SIAL's contributions (in collabaration with Tom Kovac) to Non Standard Exhibition are detailed here. All pictures of the project are copyrighted under Tom Kovac.
What is this course about? The aim of this course is to give students expertise in modelling designs parametrically. This will be achieved through skills-based instruction and hands-on project-based learning with an introduction to CATIA parametric engineering design software. Undergraduate students completing this course will have excellent advance preparation for SIAL studios. It is also an elective offering for Graduate Certificate and Masters studies.
Format of Sessions The first six sessions will combine a lecture/demonstration with a hands-on exercise that demonstrates the main principles involved in associative geometrical modelling using CATIA. The exercises are conceived progressively to expand participants’ mastery of the software. The remaining session time will be dedicated to tutorial/seminar based support for the project-based work through individual tutorials and group discussion. There will be opportunities to generate physical prototypes using rapid prototyping and traditional modelling techniques. At the final session, all projects will be reviewed in class. Participants will have book-able access to the SIAL student laboratory at other times outside session times.
