This research is focused upon the development of a digitally mediated architecture and the realization of that architecture within the physical realm. The generation of formally complex architectures has now become commonplace within architecture. The inherent difficulties in making the transposition or translation from one state to another - from the 'digital' to the 'physical'; the 'virtual' to the 'actual' - is neither new nor specific to the field of architecture. An example of the process of moving between states was the creation of a high quality 1:50 scale model of the final scheme of the Paramorph ll: A Gateway to the South Bank, London project, to be exhibited at the Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia - 7. Mostra Internazionale di Architettura 2000). The making of this model formed part of the ongoing collaboration between members of the School of Architecture and Building at Deakin University and the Paris based practice of dECOi architect(e)s.
