Major grant success: SIAL receives two linkage grants


SIAL received 2 major linkage grants in the latest round of ARC funding.

Linkage grants are awarded to academic institutions that partner with industry to work on collaborative research projects. Both these projects will offer PhD scholarship positions at SIAL to be announced later in 2013. Congratulations to the team members and partner organisations involved and we look forward to the project outcomes over the coming three years.

Project Title:
Agile opera: chamber opera in a new era

Project Summary
Chamber Made Opera and university researchers will explore new production and audience models that engage a digitally enabled society. This project will support the creation of innovative performance works, enable the engagement of new audiences, and provide outcomes that promote the sustainability of arts organisations in the
digital age

Project Title:
The sound of space: architecture for improved auditory performance in the age of digital manufacturing

Project Summary
This project will combine complex custom architectural surface design with acoustic modelling and simulation to look
for novel solutions to the challenges of noisy interiors. It will apply digital modelling in new ways including the construction of high fidelity full scale prototypes for testing in an open office environment and a church.
